The PC servers will be coming down at 6am (pacific) for a brief update.  Estimated downtime is approximately 1.5 hours.

The following changes have been made:

  • Increased Alert victory XP from 2500 to 5000.
  • Indar alert will now be twice as likely to fire off than any other alerts.
  • Victory Points awarded for winning an Indar alert has been increased from 3 to 4.
  • Victory Points awarded for winning an alert (other than Indar) has been increased from 3 to 5.
  • Increased minimum continent population required to launch an alert from 30 to 40 per faction (only two empires need to meet this requirement.)
  • Increased alert duration from 60 minutes to 90 minutes.
  • Alert can no longer run simultaenously on multiple continents.

a) dont care
b) dont get it, probably because of the indar changes they are planning they want to test its new bases ?
c, d) if they keep doing that then the new system will not be any different than the old lock system, its already now almost what it was.
e) interesting but this makes Hossin a non alert continent now.
f) 90 is a lot better, I would say even the 120 we had before was not enough
g) why ? the multiple alerts made the game more interesting and made sure everyone was taking part in an alert.

b) People complained a lot about constantly fighting on Indar. This changes make it more likely that Indar will be rotated out / locked more regularly.

g) The general consensus on Reddit and from talking to people is that most people don't care about alerts either way. Having two at the same time makes it just a normal thing that's happening and it doesn't have the "epicness" any more. On top of that with the dwindling population I doubt we have enough pop to fight alerts on two continents.

A second thing that started to happen on Emerald is that one faction will just quit the "main alert" to go ghost cap the "second alert" which in my opinion defeats the whole purpose of alerts.
On "Main Alert" continent, the faction that went to the second alert gets double teamed and it's basically a race to cap their territory the fastest.

Well, I like that changes. Played an 90min Esamir yesterday and it feeles like one of the old days... actually its much better then before. Alerts are much more the "main thing" again, but you can get some VP in between if you are clever and lucky.

You did great yesterday indeed!

The VPs add more strategic depth during the alert as well, they encourage people to go for warpgates and take great risks of being cut off to get those.
